Tribal Member Wins Multiple Scholarship Awards

ALBUQUERQUE - Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Insitute President Dr. Sherry R. Allison today announced that a member of SIPI's 2010 Graduating Class, Rosan Primeaux, has received multiple academic scholarship awards this year.  Primeaux, an enrolled member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma, will graduate this month with an Associates of Arts degree in Business Administration.

"We are extremely proud of Ms. Primeaux for all that she has accomplished," said Allison.  "I am personally gratified that she chose SIPI to begin her educational endeavors."

In March, after 1,600 applications were reviewed, Primeaux was named a winner in the 2010 USA TODAY All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, and selected as a 2010 Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. Earlier this spring she was recognized as a 2010 New Mexico All-State Academic Team winner.  She was also named the SIPI 2010 Student of the Year and is an American Indian Higher Education Consortium/American Indian College Fund scholarship recipient.  WIth Each award Primeaux will receive stipends that will enable her to continue her education a the University of New Mexico, where she will major in Human Resources Management.  Her goal is to become a hospital administrator for a tribal health care facility in the Unites States.

"None of this would have been possible if not for the encouragement I received at SIPI to work hard," said Primeax.  "SIPI game me the confidence ro pursue my goal of working in Indian Country as a health care professional."
