The Ponca Tribe Office of Environmental Management is currently funded 100% from the
EPA General Assistance Program (GAP). The EPA GAP is used to build tribal capacity to
administer environmental protection programs consistent with the federal laws the EPA is
charged with implementing. Funding is provided under GAP for the purposes of planning,
developing and establishing tribal environmental protection programs consistent with
programs and authorities administered by the EPA. What this means is that all our work is
dictated by an EPA approved workplan which outlines everything we can do using these
federal funds. If it is not in the workplan, it is not work we are supposed to do.
